THE VAMPIRE HALL OF FAME

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the Vampire Hall of Fame, where I have gathered together some of the many fictional and historical figures that have had a profound influence on the way society perceives vampires.
Vampires have always held a special place in my imagination. When I watch a film or read a novel whose key players are vampires, I find myself drawn body and soul into the story. It is for this reason that I have created this page.This macabre hall of fame currently contains pictures and biographies for 10 characters, though this will no doubt increase as I find the time to conduct more research. By writing these biographies, I hope I have succeeded in exploring certain myths and highlighting advances that have taken place in the genre.
Vampires are defined by a number of things that set them apart from humanity. Most people accept that mankind came about as a result of evolution, or as part of a divine plan. Not so with vampires - they are undead, and live outside the grace of God. Bram Stoker puts the origin of Count Dracula down to Satanism. Anne Rice's vampires are the result of an incident of demonic possession. In the Vampirella comic book, the origins of the vampire are in outer space. Each of these myths affords its vampires with different characteristics.
There have been so many vampires in the worlds of fiction and film, that nobody could ever hope to catalogue them all. The characters here are merely the tip of the iceburg. When sifting through vampire material for inclusion in this page, I felt I couldn't avoid raising my hat to perhaps the most dominant figure in the genre today. Someone who is not a vampire at all, but whose sworn duty it is to hunt vampires down and destroy them. I am speaking of course of Buffy Summers, the main character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a show which has singlehandedly made vampires popular with a whole new audience. I make no apologies for the inclusion of Buffy. In my humble opinion she has more than earned her place.
